About Us
Background of Young Democrat Union of Africa.
The Young Democrat Union of Africa, as the youth wing of the Democratic Union of Africa, YDUA is an alliance of all youth wings of all the centre-right political parties across the African continent. The Young Democrat Union of Africa brings together a wide range of members with amiable histories, diverse culture but comparable political ideologies and traditions, unified by a collective commitment to freedom, and to fight for social democracy. The union has over 22 member political parties spread out across the African region.
The union is privileged to have His Excellency the President of Ghana, H. E. Dr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as the patron of the union. YDUA is run by a democratically elected executive board. A number of committees are appointed to be responsible for the smooth running of the union’s thematic priority areas. Currently the President of YDUA, Ms. Louisa Atta-Agyemang, is a Ghanaian and a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party Youth Wing. The Vice President, Gwamaka Stafford Mbughi, is a Tanzanian and a member of the CHADEMA party national campaign team. The Secretary General of the Union is a Namibian Member of Parliament, Hon. Inna Hengari.
The union organized its first major event in 2020, where it planned its activities and to forge a better future for the union and its members. The event, Conference and Election Monitoring, was held under the theme “Consolidating democracy in Africa: YDUA at the forefront of Transparent and Impartial Elections”. The event was held from 2nd to 8th December, 2020 in Accra Ghana. The event was hosted at Fiesta Royale with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation - Ghana and the New Patriotic Party. Earlier that year (2020), the first elections were held to constitute the first executive board for YDUA. Prior to that we had met in Ivory Coast, with all the youth wings of member parties, which marked our first meeting. Subsequently the union has organized capacity building workshops for the youth wings of center-right political parties with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. It is the fervent expectation of the union to build stronger ties to ensure that it is able to achieve its mandate.
